The Joint Research Centre and WALTER partners are organizing a Workshop on UWB regulations, measurements and testing at ISPRA, Italy on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2008. WALTER (Wireless Alliance for Testing Experiment and Research) is a Collaborative Research project with start date of 01/01/2008 with duration of 24 months, with the objective of developing a broadband wireless test bed covering the emerging needs of the research, the industry and the regulators on Ultra-wideband communications. The objectives of this workshop are:
Discuss the current regulatory, industry and research requirements on UWB communications. Support the identification and resolution of conflicting requirements. Discuss the technical challenges and approaches in the definition of UWB test beds. Discuss the research status of UWB interference and mitigation techniques including Detect And Avoid (DAA). |

SeBoCom workshop outcomes |

On May, 27th and 28th, in Ispra, was held the Secure Border Communications (SeBoCom) Workshop aiming at setting the ground for a new Project in the area of Secure and Interoperable Communications for Border Security Forces. |
The purpose of the workshop was to present the outcome of the pre-study
and to bring together representatives of end users and industries to
share the different experiences.
End Users’ and Industries’ attendance was very satisfactory and
all the presentations were of very high level; also representatives of
the External Relations Directorate General (DG RELEX) of the European
Commission attended the Workshop.
End Users’ presented their real life experience in Joint
Operations and outlined their need for a reliable communication system
in order to be able to perform their tasks, while Industries presented
the state of the art of technology in the area of secure communications
with specific reference to European Projects.

European Security Research and Innovation Forum |
 | The European Security Research and Innovation Forum (ESRIF), a
public-private partnership on security research and innovation, will
hold its 4th plenary meeting from the 19th to the 21st of May, 2008 at the JRC in Ispra. |
ESRIF is a forum for the development of a Public-Private Dialogue in the area of EU security research and innovation. ESRIF will - bring together all the relevant stakeholders in order to discuss issues of crosscutting, common concern;
- identify
proposals for forming a strategic security research and innovation
agenda, involving national and European stakeholders, laying out a
shared and clear view of European security research needs and
priorities; and
- share ideas, views and best practices in
order to make better use of existing capabilities and to enhance the
use of technology in security-related domains, e.g. by inter alia
making the best possible use of the various funding instruments in the
present financial programming period.
